Ohio: Celebrate Local

Ohio, the heart of it all. I grew up in a Ohio city that borders the state of Michigan. How cool is it to be closely connected to two amazing states? I’ll talk more of Pure Michigan later. This post is for Ohio and Ohio is for lovers.

Last weekend, we made a trip Columbus, the center of it all. We did our usual perusing of nature, local restaurants and Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams and eventually made our way to the Celebrate Local shop at Easton Towne Center. Celebrate Local is like a farmers market all rolled into a convenient store that features anything Ohio, from fine wines & brews, t-shirts and art to syrups, jellies and fresh produce. Mmmhmm. It’s definately my kind of place. Especially when we are trying to support our local economy.

While discovering all Ohio has to offer, I picked up these beautiful up-cycled Ohio studs by Alex Traxler of Griffen Hollow Studio. The redwood used to create the Ohio shape was reclaimed from the Ohio Stadium. And now, I’m obsessed with them.

i’m back, baby!

Welp, it’s time I make my way back into this world of documenting my every move…

We just listened to the entire Justin Timberlake album, The 20/20 Experience and well, I think he threw the last track on there just for me and my indie soul. But, this isn’t what I came back to say.

I came back because, my partner in crime – the work wife is leaving our office today. Kate and I have worked closely together at our nine to five for the past 3 years and today, we will part ways in the professional world. BUT we have some exciting things in line for our future… The first step in our adventure has been released today on her blog, Fashionably Kate. This past weekend, we stepped out of the office and ventured around town on a little photo shoot to capture her sense of style for the blog. And with my photos on the internet, I thought it might be time for me to come back to the virtual world. Here are a few of my favorites from Saturday…

So, click on over to her blog to see how she put together 4 great GREEN outfits for St. Patrick’s Day Week.

PS. This might be my first time photographing a person. Shhhh… don’t tell. :)

My first dye: purple ombré.

I’m 28 years old and just dyed my hair for the first time a month ago. No, I wasn’t going grey, I just did it because I woke up one day and I thought, “yeah, purple hair sounds cool.” After consulting with my brothers fiancé, I called and made the appointment. My virgin hair was going purple ombré. After 4 hours in the chair, this is what it looked like:

The color has faded since. I thought about going back in to touch it up and strip a few chunks with bleach to highlight with an in-your-face grape purple, but I decided to keep my locks as healthy as possible. What do you think? Should I go for more?

Excuses, excuses…

I’m finally finding an excuse to wear this fantastic BCBG Max Azria dress I picked up from Macy’s a few years back. I bought it the week I thought (knew) Steve was going to pop the question. We were planning a dinner on our anniversary at a fancy dancy restaurant in Ann Arbor when a snow storm hit. So, he ended up asking me to spend my life with him in the comfort of our living room. Anyway, I didn’t have a chance to wear this pretty purple dress until recently.

Oh, and I got these SWEET Marc Fisher shoes to go with it. I can’t tell you how many compliments I’ve gotten on these heels.

Tuesday Shoesday: Need I Say Amour

Finding the right shoes to share on Tuesdays is a task. It’s not that I don’t love browsing the web for shoes to add to my collection, it’s that I find too many that I like and have to limit myself to one pair.

Today, I came upon these vintage inspired, pretty in pink Poetic License heels that caught my eye. They are those pretty pretty princess shoe you pretend you don’t want. These Need I Say Amour heels will be available this spring (2012) on ModCloth. Click here to get a better look at the touch of glitter that sparkles in the transparent heel. If you really need these to add to your closet, sign up to be one of the first to know when they go on sale. Until then, you can daydream about the white summery dress you plan on wearing with them.

I can see clearly now…

Remember the fabulous wrist art by Mistura I found at the Black Swamp Arts Festival a few years back? It was a beautifully handcrafted wood watch with a yellow leather strap. If you want to see more, click here. Anyway, while sitting on the couch on this lazy afternoon and finding a reason to daydream about traveling, I somehow found these stunning wood-framed sunglasses that are handmade in Portland, Oregon. Whew, these Shwood specs are beautiful and are now on my wish list. Below are some of my favorites.

They even collaborated with Pendleton, a local fiber company on a design and carrying bag. See the video below to hear about their process.

tuesday shoesday: pointy is back

If you haven’t heard, pointy shoes have made their way back into fashion. They are always acceptable, but now they are “in” again. I found these perfect pointed ballerina flats with a structured bow on top. The caramel color screams fall. Couldn’t you see these with a dark skinny jean? And, they are affordable at a price of $44.93.

Click for more on these ASOS LEVAN Double Bow Flat Point Ballerina’s.

tuesday shoesday: because it feels nice.

I’ve been eyeing these beautiful Mona Felt Pumps from J.CREW since last Tuesday. I meant to share these then but ran into some issues with my dog. It’s been a crazy week, I will update you on all of that later.

For now, I’d like to share my admiration of the texture mix-up going on here. The smooth tortoise print heel is a perfect contrast to the grey wool used in the upper part of the shoe. These combinations are reflective of the 60’s style fashion that we all know and love. Click here for a closer look.
: )

tuesday shoesday: slingbacks & booties.

Initially, I was planning on sharing these teal slingback sandals from Nine West but due to cooler weather, I wore a sweater to work today. Oprah posted about these beauties on her website and of course, they are no longer available. Bummer.

In light of the cooler weather, I thought something suitable for jeans would be perfect. I found these booties from Belle by Sigerson Morrison (6575) that come in Black and Canguro Apache. Aren’t they sweet? I could totally see them with jeans and a nice sweater. I love that carmel color. If you’re interested, you can purchase them at Zappos for $295. Eeeep!
